Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.
Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is his first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after that period of 2023.
Victory also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.
But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced service.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.
He defended four initial opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
